We passionately believe that truly timeless landscape architecture can only come from a deep understanding of a project’s existing ecosystem. The starting point of our design process is always the site, with each presenting its own unique set of qualities, characteristics, opportunities and constraints. In the heart of one of the world's largest cities, on a remote volcanic island, high up in the mountains, or deep within a tropical forest, the fundamentals of our rigorous design process remain unchanged. We first spend the time to understand and extract the unique character, elements and qualities of a site’s ecosystem, history, culture and function, through comprehensive survey and analysis, before our creative design process starts.
Informed, but never limited by our past experiences and lessons learned, we look to balance new and innovative solutions to traditional challenges and traditional solutions to new and contemporary challenges. Always looking for opportunity in difficult projects, we firmly believe that great design often comes from the most challenging constraints.
Our wealth of knowledge is always there to be tapped into for every new project we undertake. It may be traditional timber construction techniques for a project in Mandalay, or sourcing stone carving artisans for a project in Siem Reap, or for something as simple as how to transplant a mature sugar palm on an island off the coast of Phuket.
As our cities grow ever larger and more crowded and the world’s wilderness areas grown ever smaller and under threat, there has never been a time in history when our simple philosophy of reconnecting people with the natural world in our cities and protecting and preserving our wild places has been more relevant.
