Less than 50 kilometers south of Singapore is a boutique resort consisting of 27 villas perched on stilts, on a dramatic coastal headland. This resort is an example of environmentally sensitive planning and design, where the existing natural beauty and drama of a site has been retained and enhanced as part of the development process. Working closely with the resort architects on positioning the hotel and villas, as well as vehicular and pedestrian circulation, the landscape design was developed to ensure that there was minimal impact to the existing forest trees and large boulder outcrops on the site. Banyan Tree Bintan is a complete resort with direct access to a white sand beach, two dramatic swimming pools (one of which is set within the mature forested slopes of the resort and a second located adjacent to the beach), and an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course.
