InterContinental Phuket Resort, Thailand

InterContinental Phuket Resort is a unique combination of classical Thai mythology, nature and resort luxury. With inspiration drawn from the Traibhumikartha (the oldest of Thai texts), guests are taken on a landscape journey to a “Heavenly haven of modern luxury”. The main landscape axis leading to the iconic Sati Spa pavilion is the centerpiece of the resort. As guests walk along the axial way, past the silver mosaic feature walls, the clouds above are reflected in the central feature pool, symbolizing walking on clouds to Sawan (Thai heaven), through the Himmapan Forest (mythical Thai forest between heaven and earth, which is home to many enchanted creatures). The range of bespoke landscape details for this project were extensive. Balancing Thai cultural referencing, symbolism and tradition with a contemporary and clean-lined aesthetic required unique solutions, details, materials, artwork design and plant species selection.
